How To Disable USB Pen Drive in Microsoft Windows XP


USB Pen drives are major cause of virus and virus like activities in the computers. We should need to stop the usage of USB Pen Drive in every organization. If anyone want to copy data on pen drive then only authorised person can use the USB drive on the computer.

For this the administrator of the computer should need to make some changes in the registry settings of Windows XP. I am giving hereunder the steps to lock and unlock the USB storage
device:

1. Click on Start

2. Select RUN

3. Type regedit and press Enter

4. Select My Computer

5. Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

6. Then go to SYSTEM

7. Then go to CurrentControlSet

8. Then go to Services

9. Then double click on USBSTOR

Here you can change value data of Start from three to four. Now you should need to press OK button.

Please note that four means lock the USB storage device and three means Unlock the USB storage device.

Now you should need to restart the system to lock or unlock the USB storage device.
